Foundation Stage

Forest School

Autumn

‘If you go down to the woods today …….’

Our theme for this Autumn term ‘If you go down to the woods today’ based on the Early Years context for learning. The children will be learning about lots of different woodland animals especially the ‘Nocturnal’, ‘Diurnal’ and ‘Hibernating’ kind!

During the sessions we will be helping to make the Forest School area into a suitable place for our woodland friends to find food and shelter over the winter months. We will be cleaning our hedgehog home and making it ready for the winter period and hanging a bat nesting box. We will continue to feed our feathered friends as well as our resident squirrel. We will also be thinking about the changing seasons, animal habitats, and what animals need to survive the natural environment.

By ‘Working together’ we will learn to work as part of a team when playing games such as 1, 2, 3 where are you? The children will also have a go at new challenges like whittling a stick with a potato peeler and using tools.

Look out for our regular updates on the school website, and our forest school display board.

Spring

Our theme for this Spring term is ‘Once Upon a Time’. The children will be learning lots of different things including using different tools, using their imagination to make woodland art, building fairy houses, listening to traditional stories and using the skills they have learnt to problem solve.

We will continue to work together and work as a team when playing games such as 1, 2, 3 where are you? The children will also have a go at cooking simple things on the fire, making group dens and climbing trees.

Look out for our regular updates on the school website, and our forest school display board.

Summer

Our theme for this term is ‘Plants and Mini-beasts’. We will be learning how to use natural materials to paint pictures, listening and sequencing stories related to plants and mini-beasts, revisit and learn how to use tools, mini-beast hunting; tree rubbing and to cook simple things on a fire.

We will continue to work together, use problem solving in activities and work collaboratively.
