I began working as a midday assistant and gradually completed a course to become a teaching assistant.

Since then I’ve been working in ks1 helping within the classroom supporting groups and individuals. I’ve also helped with interventions and identifying children’s needs and areas of improvement, strengths and goals.

This year I am also taking on a new role within the school as a learning mentor where I will be working closely with children to help build resilience and confidence both individually and in small groups. I’m really excited to start this role as it’s something I’m really passionate about.

I work closely with my team to encourage, support and inspire the children to be whatever they want to be as they grow throughout their school life and to be proud of all their achievements.

Mrs Julia Williams - Learning Mentor

Hello, my name is Julia Williams I have been working at Pear Tree Mead since 2000. My first role was as a MDA, supporting children during their lunch in the dining hall and within the playground environment.

I became a Teaching Assistant in 2001 and three years after that I trained to become a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. In this role I support classes by leading the teaching; I’ve had experience in teaching Nursery through to Year 6.

I’m also one of the three schools Learning Mentors working alongside the children in upper key stage 2. I do this by either working one on one or in small groups to help with their friendships, confidence and self-esteem and through activities in my learning mentoring role, I help support the students to find and enjoy a positive learning experience and environment.

Mrs Wendy Wade - Learning Mentor

I started at Pear Tree Mead as a volunteer parent whilst working at a local pre-school in 2005. I then qualified as an Early Years Teaching Assistant in 2007 and began working at PTM as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant. During my time at PTM I have worked in all year groups always settling back in Early Years and KS1.

I qualified as a Learning Mentor in 2011 after realising that I enjoyed working with both children and their families trying to help make a difference to their education when home life or their class room experience changes and becomes a little difficult. I am able to work with individual children and small groups to help with their listening skills, self-esteem, confidence building and often run friendship groups to help make their school life an enjoyable experience. I am also lucky to work alongside both Reception classes once a week at Forest School.

I am passionate about my work and thrive to help provide a positive experience for both the children and parents of Pear Tree Mead School. I often run a coffee drop in where parents and carers can come along and meet both myself and Mrs Haigh (inclusion Officer) to let us know if things change at home that may impact on your child’s learning.

Having been the Chair of The Friends of Pear Tree Mead, I am now an active volunteer on the FOPTM working with an enthusiastic group of parents and carers helping to arrange the extra-curricular activities that your children enjoy and remember whilst also raising additional funds for the school to spend to improve the children’s educational experience.
